Built-in Red Oak Entertainment Center and Bookshelf Cabinet

This is a recent entertainment center in a newer Florida home that is designed to fill in a recessed space in the existing wall. This utilizes an open shelf design without doors and looks really nice.

This is red oak with red oak plywood as a structure to the build. The facing is solid red oak, baseboard, and bed molding trim at top. The baseboard is slightly higher than the existing colonial baseboard trim that is painted white. The stain color is called Golden Oak by Minwax.

Here is the same center from a different angle.

The center section is 44 inches wide, a bit wider than the TV to allow some upsizing later as TV's don't last forever. The shelf just above along with all the shelves are adjustable.

We also built a bookshelf in an additional office room of the same material and design.

This is also set up for a TV in the center section which is 36 inches wide.

Entertainment Center with mirrors, lights, glass shelves

The following entertainment center was installed with mirrors on the sides in the back with lights and glass shelves. The wood is maple and stained with Minwax Red Mahogany color.

There is still a small piece of baseboard required on each side that wraps the wall extension the entertainment center is recessed into. The lights are above the mirror sections each side and a dimmer switch is just inside behind the fluted pilasters. The recession into the wall was where a fake fireplace and space originally existed and was removed.

The recession into the wall has a curved top which required a top section to match the curve in order to cover the existing recession. This gives the unit a unique look since it does not protrude into the room.

Here is a closer image of the top.

The recessed section has a minor extension into the room that reveals the entire unit.

This is a closer image of the base which is 36 inches high.

Entertainment Center Cabinet for Big TV

This is an entertainment center for a large screen TV that will set above the mantel effect about 48 inches from the floor. The wall had a 45 degree turn in it on the left where the cabinet was extended to the edge of the sliding glass door. The right section the wall extends out from the inside corner about 18 inches, so the cabinet is a couple of inches less that this in thickness to the face.

The visible hole is behind the TV and is space so that wiring from the TV can drop down into the lower cabinet where the electrical outlet is and the cable hookup if used. The lower doors are inset into the openings and have an adjustable shelf inside each base cabinet. All the shelves are adjustable except the fixed shelf directly above the top of the TV section.

Entertainment Center for Big Screen TV

This entertainment center was built for a big screen TV to mount in the center upon the back wall and wires to run inside a chase down to lower section where wire access is located. The doors below the center section have a decorative grating for both ventilation and guaranteed remote functioning if used. The following photo shows the cabinets freshly painted without the shelves or door knobs installed.

The opening for the big screen TV is big enough for a 60". The base is built similarly to furniture with a decorative leg and toe kick since the floor here was fairly level to begin with.

The top has a solid piece so that the view of the top is more finished looking a seen from upstairs . (See photo below.)

The shelf above the opening for the TV is fixed and another adjustable shelf is made for above this.
All the doors are inset with self-closing hardware and adjustable shelves.

The base cabinet is 20 inches deep and 18 inches on the sides deep. The section above is 12 inches deep. The hole seen in the center section is the access to the vertical chase for wiring which is behind the TV.
